For shade and shelter, space frame structures with lightweight skins offer real opportunities for dramatic forms with minimal ground contact and foundation footprint. Domes, vaults, flat and inclined planes can be used individually or in combination. Modern cladding materials complement the lightness of the structure. The effects of daylight and sunlight within the enclosed space can be controlled with opaque or translucent coverings. The modular nature of the structure is ideally suited to the use of pre-fabricated rooflight components and cladding panels.
